A Couple of Bible Thoughts To Start the Month

  1.  The more complicated theological questions raised in the Bible are also less important — of an intricacy disproportionate to their interest.  Professional theologians instinctively and understandably will not want to concede this.  But, indeed, the really important question is, What does God want us to do?  And the answer to that is not complicated or disputed:  Love Him and each other.
  2. There is no reason to suppose that all Scripture is equally relevant for every era.  For example, the tribal solidarity themes in the Old Testament were important then but less so now.  The same with actual, physical idol worship.  This doesn’t mean that such passages are permanently obsolete.  They may become relevant again, literally, and they may be relevant now, analogically.
