Our church just finished a sermon series on Leviticus, and in that regard I wanted to share a thought. In the text there are repeated reminders along the lines of “I am the Lord” or “I am the Lord your God” (for example, fifteen times just in chapter 19, according to a study guide). So my thought is that perhaps God thought it would be a good idea, in His inspired text, to remind people that this is God talking.
This is not, in other words, just the opinion of some Levite priest; presumably, in those days when texts were scarce and literacy rates were low, the audience was often listening to someone else reading it out loud, and it would make sense to remind them frequently that these were God’s commands, not just human opinion.
