Here’s a happy thought I had this spring as I drank my morning coffee: What is the natural sound people most often hear — that is, the sound people most often hear that is not manmade?
The answer is birds singing, is it not? And that is a very pleasant sound, is it not?
The closest contender might be the breeze in the trees — and that is not at all unpleasant either, is it?
So, following this, I pondered: What natural sight do humans most often see? And the answer would be the blue sky with its clouds and sun and moon and stars, followed by trees and other greenery, and perhaps the ocean. Again, all not only awe-inspiring but very pleasant.
And what we most often taste and smell is food and water, I bet.
My point is that our ordinary natural environment could have been a lot worse, and that in fact God has made us an everyday physical world that is not only pleasant and soothing to the senses but literally wonderful.
