I’ll Be Watching You

In the last sermon of 2024 at our church, the pastor made what I thought was a good point about the Great Commission, Matthew 28:18-20:

18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Take a look at the last words that Jesus speaks here, “and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  I had always assumed that Jesus was just promising the disciples His support, but the pastor points out that it also means that Jesus is watching us.  I’ll be supporting you, Jesus says — and you better do it.
